Becky the owner is amazing. The teapot sadly fell victim to the floods but that didn’t stop them working day and night to get it back up at running and looking incredible again.

Becky is baking at 5am every day to produce such amazing cakes which is true dedication for you!! They are by far the best cakes in town so The Teapot deserves this award hands down!! Xx

  • Priscilla Eurich says:

I always enjoy a visit to Orton’s whenever I’m in BOA – I love looking at all the wonderful handmade sparklies in the display cabinets in this relaxed, contemporary-styled shop. The authenticity of the produce is prompted by the craftsmen labouring at their workbench behind the counter; something rarely seen these says! I’m always made to feel welcome and allowed to ‘mooch’ as much as I want, and the staff have always been ready with help and advice when I needed it.
This special shop is a rarity and should be on all ‘must visit’ lists for locals and visitors alike!

It’s great to be visiting Bradford-on-Avon again. It’s changed a lot for the better (traffic still bad though). Bath Bombs & Shower Caps is not the kind of shop I regularly go in but it has an interesting window display. I found some really nice baby presents there at reasonable prices for my new great-nephew which went down well with his mum (my niece), and some special hand cream for my girlfriend. Dorothy has done well in making the place attractive and interesting – even for a bloke looking for presents!

  • Ian Miller says:

Love what James and his team have done to J Alex Browns – was gutted when it closed – but they have brought it back to it’s former glory, even spilling over the pavement and embellishing street furniture! Friendly service, loads of local knowledge – and with that have gone beyond the call of duty and helped me with contacting and recommending local tradespeople when I’ve needed them. AND they’re open LATE. You can often drive by at *10pm* and see James behind the counter and talking to a customer!

    April 17, 2014 at 12:34 pm

I love Christine’s shop because everything she sells from chocolate to shampoo is fairly traded and environmentally as friendly as possible. Meat is free range and vegetables organic. There is a wide variety of cheeses and dairy products. You can refill your containers of washing-up liquid, handwash, shampoo, conditioner etc. The smell of the shop is pleasurable, staff and customers are good-tempered and cheerful. It’s altogether an exceptionally nice place to be!

  • Phil Dixon says:

Where else in BoA (let alone the rest of the country) can you get helpful and friendly service 7 days a week 10+ hours a day? The town has much to be grateful to James for since he took on the previous closed hardware store. He has subsequently developed it further, saving BoA residents from a trip to the dreadful B+Q in Trowbridge … or worse!

By The Way is a short and pleasant walk from the centre of town, and is handily next to a pub with a canal-side beer garden. I tend to pop in on a whim or if I need to buy a gift and am at a loss as to what to buy. More often than not, however, I end up buying something for myself or for the home. Is my favourite shop in BOA.

Amongst the many excellent independent businesses in Bradford on Avon, Tillions deserves a very special prize as it has been under the same family ownership in our town for 32 years. First with Malcolm (what a gentleman) and in recent years his energetic daughter Caroline. In addition to providing an Aladdin’s Cave for local customers they are a great example of a business that attracts many tourist and day visitors to the shop and town. The family have always been very active supporters of the Chamber of Commerce and readily get involved with many of the community activities. Thank you Tillions, we are proud to have your unique business in Bradford on Avon

So very very hard to choose, but my vote finally goes to the new J Alex Browns which is now a most brilliant shop with everything you could need and more. The way it spills over onto the pavement and the plants around the Belisha beacon too, make it look so inviting. And its open such long hours and 7 days a week! Brilliant. Best service ever, as James is so helpful and full of local information too. Well done to James for all his hard work in restoring it and making it a star of a shop in Bradford!
